That's a good question because I can't find any information on the gain of the phono stage in the P5 preamp. It has a three position switch to select between MM/47k-ohms, MC/47k-ohms and MC/100-ohms, but I don't see anything describing its gain.

What cartridge are you using?

Have you tried different switch positions?
