When a mic preamp is in the rack space above a PA system controller, a 9-inch XLR-to-RCA analog interconnect helps keep things neat.
I think an RCA-to-RCA interconnect could be as short as 6 inches, IF and only if the sets of jacks were close to exactly vertically aligned.
In whole-home installations, many contractors field-fabricate cables to the exact lengths to keep the back of the rack from looking like a first try at home-made spaghetti.
