I haven't heard the AR, but I own a DR-9 and will never part with it.
With my Vandy 3As, it was incredible with an iron grip on the bass and yet detailed with deep soundstage. I would agree with Tidy that it can be a bit on the dark side. A buddy of mine with great ears really liked the combo and thought it sounded like a tube amp. I bought it on the recommendation from Oakroot who was using a pair in bridged mono for his big Sound Labs speakers.
It'll drive anything you throw at it with plenty of power.
