RE: Impressions of class D amps from Gilmore and Merrill...

Very interesting comparisons. Are you planning to try other speakers or did you have to give them back already? I guess if your plan is to stick with the Thiels then you have made up your mind.

In my trials with Class D I did not find them so much bright as "dry" in the upper mids and highs and also lacking air (I have not had ncore at home). The Devialet was better than most but still inferior to the Einstein hybrid integrated I had at the time, which didn't stay with me long because it was a good but not great sounding amp.

Although the bass was often powerful it was lacking texture and nuance (the same could be said of the whole frequency range). When listening to them it sounds to me like all sound is like a hard object and that you cannot see "into" the sound. All surface and no depth.
