Kuribo, I totally understand your passion. This is my short experience and opinion with switchers.Beginning with the PS Audio HCA-2 and the stunning Spectron Musician IIII I was very impressed by what now seems to be the inherent nature of switching amplifiers; incredibly controlled bass, plate glass transparency, and their lack of congestion and fatigue at high volumes. These same attributes (to me) may also be considered undesirable to others who find the bass less full and the transparency too forward or analytical.
I still have a pair of crudely assembled nCore 400s driving a pair of Avalon Monitors in my small recording room. This combination is easily superior to all the similar sized passive and powered studio monitors I've tried. It's incredibly critical for me, a novice recorder, to hear microphone selection and placement. They are clearly defined with this combination.
The nCores have no problem driving my Avalon Eidolons in the living room. Unfortunately. I find their personality in the studio doesn't make for as comfortable long session listening as my tube amplifiers do.
I've come to the conclusion that switching amplifiers are simply a legitimate third category of amplification as different as linear solid state is to vacuum tubes and totally dependent on what one is amplifying and in what context. We should all keep in mind that some of the oldest and most respected amplifier designers continue to develop and evolve switching amplifiers. Lets face it, most of the equipment we use in this hobby has shortcomings to some degree.
That said, and considering the Musician III, I find the Mola Mola an excellent choice for those who support this industry with their generosity and can afford to experiment and report their experiences. We should all consider the degree of our comments regarding any aspect of this hobby as they could run the risk of discouraging this small yet important segment of our community.
