Hi there "Mr. 51 of who knows how many inmates". Thank you for the kind words. We all have our little "niches" that we are somewhat confident & knowledgeable in, and in the Asylum lurks many if not most who are lightyears ahead of me. My electronics niche is not even a scratch. Anyway, thank you (and others) for your simplified explanation. I'm still not sure if an amp that provides an adjustable gain is a plus or minus. Then again, probably viewed as a plus to the person who would know how to use it. Take care, Dave
