If you are looking for more warmth I would consider a tubed preamp.
Simply a wonderful combo with a solid state amp.
My needs are for delicate detail while maintaining a "musical" sound for classical music. I'm currently using a Conrad Johnson Classic 2SE. And it really is a winner.
