These are excellent in the right setup*. They are completely transparent so unless you're looking for a little warmth or glow from tubes or additional dynamics from a SS pre, the Placette might be just the ticket for you.... in the right setup. The versatile remote is also a big bonus.
By right setup I would generalize that to mean a setup driven by a source component with robust output and preferably a little more voltage output than the typical 2Vrms. The amp should also have a good amount of gain and not require a lot of signal for full output. And relatively short low capacitance interconnects.
I had the 3-input Placette Passive Linestage which is essentially the same as the single-input unit you're looking at except for it's 3 sets of inputs. You can often find the single-input units on Audiogon USED for about $600 +/- depending on condition.
