I don't own a pair, but I know them very well. They are big sonic upgrade over the pair I use (814V) in the den. Your Yamaha will drive them effortlessly (if the caps are not in dire need of replacement).
If you get the chance, try them with a Naim integrated. In many ways, the two products were made for each other.
Play around a little with room placement, but in my experience, the 836s are not the fussiest speaker out there. I have had them sounding splendid in a cube of a room.
