We sold the Maggies with the ribbons (3.5?), Klipsch, etc.
Was using the excellent Nakamichi OMS-4 CD player as the source.
I don't remember the magazine that labled the Forte as 'bright'.
They also mentioned that the companion Forte power amp sounded 'dark' and that the pair were complemenary.
The Forte was considered as the pre in a system with a Threshold S150. The CA5II, OMS-4, and a Nakamichi BX-300 were what went out the door.
The Forte eventally went to a friend with a big bi-amped double 15 system with a Tandberg on the low end, and a B&K on the mids and HF. He still loves it to this day, more than 25years down-the-road.
