about DC on your AC mains. Ground loops are immediate and don't grow with intensity as the tubes warm up. My Counterpoint did that exact same thing as you just described, and it was DC on the AC mains.
You can go to Lowes or Home Depot and pick up a cheap meter and check your AC mains for DC. Or if you are not comfortable then have someone that is experienced in this have them check it for you. This way you will know for sure.
