DC offset can cause a toroid power transformer to mechanically vibrate loudly but it would not cause a hum heard through the speakers. A power transformer will not pass DC offset.
You said 'new amp' in your original posted message. Did you buy it from a dealer in your area? If so I would take it to the dealer's store and have him hook it up to a pair of his speakers. If it hums there he should replace the amp with a another new one if you just bought it from him.
A bad electrolytic filter cap in the power supply of the amp will cause a pretty loud hum/buzz.
If it is not new I would take it to friends house and plug it in there and check for the hum. If it hums at your friends house that will tell you 100% it is not a 120V AC mains power problem.
