Home Amp/Preamp Asylum

The definitions are fine

It's his commentary that follows. :)

"Despite claims to the contrary, there is no intrinsic improvement in sound quality from Class-A in any form."

"It's not commonly accepted, but in general any two preamplifiers of equivalent performance (with equally low distortion and noise, and having the same bandwidth) will sound the same, regardless of the technology used"

"This is not because valves are 'better' - in fact it's because they are far less linear than transistors..."

I realized that a lot of people take issue with his views on negative feedback

Yep. On that topic, he is utterly clueless:

"Very few amplifiers with no negative feedback will qualify as hi-fi. There are exceptions, but the additional complexity is such that there is little or no overall benefit."

Obviously, he has never worked with any design by Ayre or Pass Labs. In those brands, you find less complexity. How about the SIT-1 amp using a single transistor in the entire amp?

edit: Don't forget the interconnect *test* I referenced here long ago. That one had me falling on the floor laughing!
