can spike from valve pre damage pow amp

Can a short DC high voltage spike from valve pre w no Protection circut damage any componens of power amp, namely Arcam P38 ?
Arcam does have a Protection circut wich enacted so to protect speakers, but could any damage happen anyway?
I cannot compare the sound before and after cos it happened during First switching on. What could be damage regarding sound or longetivity/reliability- or is everything safe?
