I recently shelved my NAD C272 power amp and Acurus LS-11 preamp in favor of a Pass Labs XP-10 preamp and Pass First Watt M2 power amp. Even factoring in the $500 or so I'll net whenever I get around to selling the old gear, and even though the Pass units were demos, this upgrade cost me about $5k. And I'm totally happy about it.
The point is that if top-flight gear (which I consider all Pass products to be) is going to cost $5k, then purveyors of second-flight-but-still-pretty-decent gear (which I consider NAD to be) have a lot of room to sell gear for 1/3 the cost.
