Then neither would be 70 WPC. It's not even 3dB, barely noticible.
Have you actually MEASURED what sort of voltages that you are applying to your speakers when playing at your prefered level? You may be surprised.
For starters try to find someone that has a storage scope, which are much more common nowadays and affordable thanks to digital technology, and ask them to measure the peaks when you are listening at a satisfactory level. Since most amplifiers are essentially voltage sources nowadays that will give you a very good reference point.
When you hear differences between amplifiers it's rarely due to the actual power capabilities, rather it's other attributes such as output impedance over frequency, interactions with reactive loads and internal distortion mechanisms that come through.
But then again, I'm not a head-banger.
