I've had hiss issues related to a tube preamp and once from RFI in a poorly shielded solid state LFD phono preamp. With my current gear, I can put my ear up to my speakers and hear absolutely nothing. So, no - it is not necessarily a part of the NF experience (though many people do end up living with a little hiss).
