My first thought was to do exactly as Abe did and find a used Pass Labs amp and noticed the same two units on Agon. I've been very happy with one of Nelson's earlier Threshold models that continues to serve me well.

On the other hand, if this is for an HT system and your needs are somewhat less demanding, there are less expensive options. A couple of years ago, I purchased an Emotiva XPA-5 and have been very happy with the purchase. I suspect that its top end response is not as refinded as the Pass, but at 70 lbs, it is as substantial a unit. It runs $1k.
