Good passive preamp for Quicksilver amps

In Sam Tellig's April 2010 review of the Qucksilver Silver 88s, he mentioned talking to Mike Sanders about using passive press with the amp.

Mike was of the opinion that they don't work very well without high-efficiency speakers, because of impedance issues. Of course, since he makes a tube line stage I think he may be 'biased' :D

If anyone has experience using passive pres with QS amps, please share your thoughts.
