I have a Musical Design PS-2 preamp that requires service. I picked this unit up for peanuts about 5 years ago, and retubed it recently with some fairly pricey Gold Lions. The total outlay was about $200.
The rest of the system consists of Tyler Linbrook monitors, stereo ACI Force subs, currently a Tandberg 3016A for amp duties, and various sources. There's also a set of VAC V-100s that I'll be switching in soon to check out how well they work with the Linbrooks.
The two update packages from Musical Design are currently $299 and $599. It remains to be seen whether or not there would be additional expenses to correct the distortion issue.
Given my listening habits (mostly fairly low volume, and almost never over mid-volume), I'm wondering if I'd be better served with something like a Goldpoint passive, which seems fairly well regarded, and is about the same outlay as the better upgrade package. Has anyone out there actually had their PS-2 updated, and if so, were you happy with the result? Goldpoint owners also please feel free to check in, or are there still other options in that price range that I haven't considered?
TIA...
