The hum may be related to the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. Occasionally bad diodes in the rectifier or coupling capacitors can also be the source. It is may or may not be worthwhile repairing the unit based on its age and overall condition, so get an estimate before proceeding with substantial refurbishment.
