I don't know what it sounds like, but the Parasound Halo P5 preamp certainly has all the features anyone could want in a preamp these days. I own a Parasound Halo A21 power amplifier and I think it sounds superb. Therefore, if I were in the market for preamp I would probably take a chance on the Parasound Halo P5, but I've never heard it so I don't know what it sounds like. My guess is that it would sound at least as good and probably much better than an old Yamaha C-65, though.
