The difference comes mostly from varying translations of the Cyrillic alphabet and the inadequacies of the standard English character set to express Cyrillic. The "n" is actually the mathematical symbol pi, but the n is the closest thing to the symbol pi, and some simply use the letter "p" instead of the symbol for pi or n. The B vs. V is also a translation thing. In either case, the EB or EV means long-life (E), high-reliability (B/V).
