When I sold my Conrad Johnson Premier 11a, this receiver substituted in between amp transition.
I tell you, when I first hooked it up, the first thing I appreciated was its bass. It was so much more dynamic and weightier than the CJ.
The high's were a bit rolled off, but the midrange was lush.
It was very musically satisfying.
Fast forward two months later, audiophilia returns.
I start missing and appreciating what I had with the CJ, the air, soundstage and imaging, relative transparecy, that palpable midrange only tube amps can offer.
I eventualy got a Defy 7, which bested the HK, and most aspects of the CJ.
The HK experience made me realize:
1. Extended listening is the only true way to judge a component.
2. Audiophilia always manages to creep back.
Enjoy that HK while the feeling lasts.
