RE: trying to determine where a clicking sound is coming from

It could very well be that the clicking is coming into your system via the AI unit - from RFI/or other high frequency noise - Computer fan/hard drive-
Art Ferris, the man behind AI did not like using ferrite to block RFI-
I had to modify my M-3a so that I would not pick up FM in the Phono stage-

One other thing to try out - is to put in some shorting plugs into an un-used input- then switch inputs and see if the shorted input has the clicking-
However It sounds like some spurious noise coming into the Pre-amp-
Adding a ferrite bead around the signal input should solve.
