I recall an article years ago in Hi Fi News where the author argued that properly done class B was better than class A/B. Sorry I can't recall any details but I do recall it didn't appear to make foolish arguments for why.
I also recall the Audionics BA150 amp, a mostly tube amp with a solid state driver stage, designed by David Berning. David was very concerned wit efficiency in amp design. And he made the amp as close to class B as possible. And it was a hell of a good amp. One good example does not make an argument but it sure puts teeth in it.
