Thanks Charles. Is your stepped attenuator like my Khozmo? Mine is 10k inout impedance and 2 resistors in the signal path at any times. It is miles better quality than the pot in my pre-amp, and then there are the tubes and transformers in it doing the extra (unwanted) gain thing. Should be interesting to see if the passive is a step up. I can see in some digital front ends a tube preamp may help balance the sound of it's a bit bright? My DAC is not bright and has tubes already in the gain stage, so should be ok I am hoping.
