Hi and i agree about the linear taper not suitable for volume control
But a small resistance can vary the attenuation curve
I think that a very important factor is the quality of contact between the resistive layer and the wiper
The superiority of discrete attenuator i think it is due to this ... a better contact meand less noise that is then amplified downstream
I think that cermet pots are better than conductive plastic pots in this regard ... less noisy
But i have to try and listen
