In a fixed bias amp, you could adjust the bias for a single 6550. With cathode bias, I'm not sure...probably. It wouldn't hurt anything. It would always sound somewhat differently than all 4 of one or the other due to differences in tube type and brands.
No matter if your amp uses cathode or fixed bias, 6550 wili surely work as a sub for all 4 and perhaps even sound better.
