I am always looking for an altenative to "discrete" attenuators
The good mechanics are very expensive
I have decided to give cermet pots a try, for a diy project
Bourns 10K linear to be modified
Unfortunately they are single ... but i will try anyway
I opened an alps blue velvet once
The resistive layer is deposited on a plastic film that can warp
Instead, if i am not wrong, in the cermet pot the resistive trace is on a ceramic substrate ? this could give a much better contact with the wiper
But i have to try as soon as i will receive the pieces

Regarding the value looking at the passive around, Placette included, 10K is quite common
I would try even lower ... 5K
If the dac has a tube output it will not work
But i have decided not to go the tube way ... so
