I had the Placette Passive Line Stage which is essentially three Placette Volume Controls tied together in one chassis. It is very transparent and versatile with a full function remote control.
Just be aware that if it doesn't sound great, it is likely to be an issue with component matching in terms of signal robustness from the source, amplifier sensitivity and gain, and speakers that don't require a lot of drive for good dynamics.
My setup consisted of a Cary CDP that has a robust higher than typical output voltage into a high gain amp and somewhat sensitive Tannoy speakers.... so I'm not near the max volume limit on the passive at moderately loud listening levels.
I've also had the Placette in another system and it sounded a bit dead dynamically. Component matching is much more critical with a passive. Good luck!
