It occurred to me that I have unused high-quality speaker cable and that the KEF 102 is small enough not to be intrusive, so reconnected it to the center channel. If I decide to try it again I can reset the center channel to on in the Oppo menu.

And my likely inerrant sense of guilt is expatiated.
