I don't know about the sound staging but most preamps are single ended and that means they have to be class A because of their topology. But even push/pull preamps are almost always class A also since at the low power of a preamp there's simply no reason not to bias them class A.
Dual mono has nothing to do with Class A. It just means that each channel has it's own dedicated power supply. Most preamps have a single power supply shared by both channels.
