From looking aroundd at the parts Marantz did NOT cut any corners and cheap out on parts. High quality parts and ALL copper screws.
I rebuild stereos as a hobby and they didn't skimp on parts! And it's sound demonstrates that.
I had it sitting side by side with my Marantz 2330. And in many ways it sounds very similar to it. The fine lush full vintage sound. Except cleaner, clearer and better imaging. The only difference was the 2330 was more bass heavy. That was not from a lack of bass on the 8004's part, but the 2330 being more bass heavy. The 8004 had better tonal balance.
