I would bet my story at how I arrived at the C272 and 5400 is different
though. You mention the MF A3.2. At one time I have the MF A3.2
and the MF Nu-Vista integrateds along with a set of Vandersteen 3As.
This combo sounded great depending upon the type of music you
like. I listen to alot of classic hard rock and heavy metal. While
I thought the older MF amps were very nice sounding amps I found
them to be too laid back for my tastes. Not enough slam for me.
At the time I owned the MF Nu-Vista integrated and the Vandersteen 3As
I borrowed a friend's Nad C372 integrated which opened my eyes to
the newer Nad amps. I sold both the MF Nu-Vista integrated and
the Vandersteens and bought the Nad C272 amp and the matching C162
preamp. Since then I tried a tube preamp and then finally the Arcam
C31. I have listened to many amplifiers since purchasing the Nad C272
and the Adcom 5400 has been the only thing I have heard that had
more slam and sounded better to me for the type of music I enjoy.
I guess I am just wondering if the 5500 or 5800 are better.
