As far as the amp, there's a lot more cajones with the Emotiva. The Mac's clipping indicators would flash at a much lower volume. The Emotiva just never seems to run out of gas. I've never seen the lights that indicate clipping go on. In addition there's more clarity and definition with the Emotiva amp. The Mac by comparison seemed slightly veiled in the upper mids and high frequencies. The Emotiva pre-amp replaced a Mac C-36. I had no real complaints about the pre-amp, with the exception I couldn't add a subwoofer without adding an outboard active crossover. That would have added to the complexity and cost of my system. I was able to sell the Mac and buy the Emotiva and still have money left over. I gained the flexibility of a subwoofer circuit but sacrificed the balance control from the Mac. In my mind, the trade was worth it.
