I just got my Emotiva USP-1 (preamp) and UPA-2 (amp) this week and have just set it up. The rest of the system consists of a VPI Scout with Benz Glider, Squeezebox Duet (all FLAC source rips), Channel Islands DAC, and AV123 Rocket 250 Mk II speakers featuring Vifa Ring Radiator Tweeters.
This is one of several systems I have. My home theater system has a McCormack MAP-1, Martin Logan Vantage speakers, and Emotiva XPA-5 amp among other things.
While it is early days, I believe the USP-1/UPA-2 combo is an unbelievable bargain. The preamp is tomb quiet on line level sources. The phono section appears to equal if not exceed the half dozen standalone phono preamps I have lying around. As often stated, I believe I am hearing new details in my most familiar recordings.
The build quality is up to the usual high standard that I have come to expect. I guess the remote control is pretty low end but it gets the job done and its hard to niggle here considering the rest of the package.
I think where I currently hear the most improvements are at the frequency extremes at both the low end and the high end. I continue to be amazed at the bass output of the modestly sized Rocket speakers. I think I hear better control and extension with the new electronics. At the high end I hear more details like the crowd murmurings from live recordings that were previously unintelligible are now clearly understandable!
Time will tell if this the killer combo I think it is but right now I'm pleased as punch.
