I can’t speak for how the 5i would drive your Viennas—though it plays a lot more powerful than 50W, it is, after all, only 50W—I have mine mated to a pair of Definitive Technology STSs, and it drives them just fine. Of course, the STSs have powered woofers, and that takes a huge load off the Naim, but still, the 5i sounds great on all types of music: weighty, detailed, and very fast. I personally don’t find it flat or uninvolving at all. In fact, I think it’s quite dimensional and lively sounding. As for whether it can do acoustic music or not—yes, I think it does it very well.
I have to say, I picked up the Naim on a friend’s recommendation, and I’m glad I did. It’s a lot quirkier than my old Dussun V8i, but I do like it better. It’s a great match for my admittedly very efficient Def Techs, but, honestly, I’d like to hear it first on less efficient speakers before I committed.
