I have an intermittant (always the worst to locate!) problem with my stereo set up, and I think it is the power amp causing the issue but don't know how to fix/identify it.
Every once in a while, and there doesn't seem to be a specific pattern to this, the music playing will gradually fade out (and possibly slightly distort) for a short time - say a few seconds - before coming back up to normal volume. The Rotel power amp (I also use an Arcam pre amp and sony CD player) has an overload protection system but the 'protection' light doesn't come on indicating that this has occured when the sound fades. I have tried swapping out the RB981 for another power amp, and the problem seemed to go (although it was intermittent anyway so there is a chance it was a coincidence), so the Rotel seems the most likely culprit. I have replaced all four output fuses in the Rotel for like replacements, although I would obviously get no sound at all if these had gone.
Can anyone suggest a possible fault which would cause the sound to fade but which only shows up very occasionally?
