The preamps are better sounding than vintage McIntosh solid state, but not better than McIntosh tube, or new McIntosh solid state.
The tuners are not very good. They work, but are not great either from an RF performance point of view, or from an audio point of view.
You might consider an NAD 1600, this is a pretty good sounding preamp, with a discrete FET phono section that puts many "phono separates" in the $500 range to shame, and also has a tuner that offers very good sound (for a tuner) and decent, but not stellar, RF performance. It also offer remote control. I bought one for $175.
A good tube McIntosh vintage unit might sound better, but will cost more.
