Thank you Ted and Andy,
Finally someone who has heard what I hear (or feel), the ultrasonic noise, or kind of reflection of it at the edge of audible range, after all I am not crazy.
I tried a number of balanced and single-ended shielded cables between source and amp (both support balanced and single-ended).
Those where VDH D102 MKIII, one pair terminated balanced with Neutrik, other single-ended. Also tried AZ Matrix Reference and Silver Reference, both single-ended.
The ultrasonic noise is always there.
It becomes more apparent when digital signal feeding the player (it has digital inputs as well as tray) is poor (jittery), for example, I take a feed from Rogers digital TV box (TosLink out into player’s input), and I get killed instantly.
I tried all kind of power arrangements for amp and digital source, direct to wall, simple power bar with filters, balanced power conditioner, all kind of power cables, makes no difference.
I am puzzled that noise gets cleaned up somewhat when pre-amp is inserted between source and amp.
I never heard this noise prior to getting this last digital source. But I still cannot jump to a conclusion who is at fault. It could be the source reflecting HF artifacts into the top of audible range, or it could be really amp that does not like when it receives something in 100K KHz and above range (my guess-estimate).
Amp is not class D, no switching PSU, it is Bryston 7B SST.
I wish I had another of latest generation of digital sources that do oversampling/upsampling to MHz range to see (hear) it hooked up to my system.
