Since no one else seem's to be doing it, I'll post my 2 cents on the NAD. I have never heard the Acurus so no comment on that. The NAD C162 however, I think is probably the best bang for buck deal going at the moment. It is musical as hell, things just sound right with it in the chain. I'm using one in a system running Thiel CS 3.5's. Old speakers to be sure but one's with a well deserved reputation for eating bad amps alive. Music sounds sweet, detailed and just plain musical with this system. If the NAD is holding the Thiel's back, I can't hear it. Tone is spot on. I've saved the best for last. If you listen to LP's [and if you don't, you should! :)], then the C162 is a giant killer. The phono stage in the C162 [MM & MC] is as good if not better than most stand alone sub 1K units I've heard. And yes, I've heard and owned a lot of them. The phono stage in the C162 is so good I have to come to the conclusion that this preamp was designed and manufactured with the LP fanatic in mind. Way far more than an afterthought, which is what you will find in most preamps with built in phono stages. Best there is? Not hardly. Miracle for $600 new? Absolutly.
