I too became a convert like you. Some systems are better matched for passive than others. There are those who still need the gain and impedance matching of a preamp. While passive won't do with many setups and I feel more should try. When I connected my CDP direct to my amp it was too loud! My decent tube pre in my system turned out to be nothing more than an attenuator with an input switcher that added a noise floor. The HF, image, clarity overall improved by going passive. I use a Placette that has three inputs and 127 volume positions via resistor ladder with a remote. I won't go back. I will make sure future components meet the need to be used in a passive environment.
