I recommend getting over the hangup. I have not heard the 220, but I do trust ARC's judgement. BUT, I am certain their tubes amps would be fine with the Ref 3. BTW, there are no old Ref 3's out there, it is a new product. Save the $2800 and use it to buy a VT 100 mk2. $10k and you will be extremely happy. Believe me, I have been the SET route, other push pull companied, snd the SS route. You would not regret a minute of this, and your speaker choice is unlimited. You could buy all this within 30 days by watching Audiogon, or if you have the cash, buy the new Ref 3 and 100 wpc tube amp.
