We can get all the products for many, many manufacturers here in Toronto (it is a city of 3+ million). My point is simply that I would like to audition prior to trying and mail order auditioning sounds painful and I barely have the energy to audition from local dealers.
Many, many brands are represented and I've got no allegiance to a local dealer. But, if I wanted to try the new Audio Research HD220 (for example) - well, it's not available at most dealers, so I'm SOTL. Do I buy without trying? In some circumstances yes, but in most no.
I don't think this is a unique problem - I'm sure the majority of people face it outside of the super-urban centers of LA, Chicago, NY etc.
Thanks
