I've thought about silver wire (or copper). The problem is that you have much higher resistance for the same weight (i remember about 4 times). And weight should not be changed (too) much, because the driver characteristics change: Lower roll-off is extended, upper response diminished. Changing wire to silver is used on Lowther drivers with good succes, but in these drivers, the coil former and cone are probably the dominant weight factor, so changing wire does not much change the weight and frequency response. This much higher diaphragm weight is compensated for by a very strong magnetic field. This is a very different set of conditions compared to the Maggies where the magnetic field is weak, and the diaphragm therefore has to be as light as possible. The wire (25 um thick in the QRs) takes the larger weight toll than the 12 um plastic film. So the wire plays the major role, you can't double or triple its weight without compromising other, probably more important parameters.
If you (or somebody else) could give the tweeter impedance, and you could count the wires runs and the spacing and length, i could find the appropriate gauge of the wire or foil. An aluminum ribbon would be a good option. How apt are you with crossover changes? If you use the search function you should find threads about 'wire' & 'glue' & "3M", i've posted comments in one thread, where somebody has written detailled 3M- glue information. This should cover your question.
