dear vinylly
re stacked quads,
if your room is large enough go for it.
the sound quality is fabulous and the bass performance is wonderful.
in the 1980's a friend doug dunlop of concordant audio built a frame to take the esl 57's.he mounted the speakers so that both power supplies were in the middle so one speaker had to be mounted upside down on the frame.
using his modified quad 11's the sound was fabulous and reggae at decent listening levels was achieved.
beware power handling of 57's is limited and if arcing occurs you will damage 2 not one pair of them.
one thing about 57's is that they dont distort until you have damaged them so be careful.
in the 1960 1970 the RADIO PEOPLE LTD OF HONG KONG manufactured the stacked quad's for the far east market but used flat panels, they sounded wonderful as well.
does anybody else out there remember them , i do fondly. but as a youngster could not persuade my father to buy them.
also of interest the RADIO PEOPLE LTD also manufactured the FRENCH GEGO ORTHOPHASE OF PARIS planar ribbons which had up to 24 drive units per cabinet.
hope you found this of interest
regards david
