Re: panasonic class-d recievers

If you ARE budget minded you can't go wrong with the XR70. Class-D amps are truly amazing. Plus, since the Panny is a true digital receiver, any digital signal stays digital and is never converted to an analog signal. An analog input is converted to 96/24 digital.

The signal is nothing more than data (0s and 1s) that activate the amp directly with no analog conversion.

The result is that there is no distortion, noise, hiss etc. coming from the amp. You can turn the gain way up and hear dead silence because there is no 0s and 1s to activate the amp. The music generates out of the dead black silence.

As far as the XR50 being noisy, there is an artifact with all d-amps. It's well above the range of hearing, 30khz or higher. Most of it is filtered out but sensitive instrumentation may pick up remnants when doing measurements.

Bottom line, the Panny's are superb budget amps. Plus they are excellent HT receivers. From a practical person's point of view, they are astounding bargains. By one now, and save for that Bryston in the meantime!
