What was missing in Dana's post is that due to a crash I had lost his address until last week when he emailed me. Crashes are unfortunate, but they do happen. (I have had several this past year). I told him of it a week before his post. The deal made on the 10.1's was a special deal made with Steve (not Magnepan the company). I didn't make a dime off of it... but rather took a lot of heat, spent a fortune in phone calls, and hours trying to explain why yet another deadline had come and gone. Looking back,.. it was a huge mistake... except for the people who got a decent deal on a fine speaker.
Magnepan is a fine company, and makes perhaps the finest speaker in the world.... unfortunately they are not 'set up' for the kind of off schedule production that this special deal entailed. They were NOT a factory close-out (I don't believe they ever do that).
They take a lot of heat because of the delays they sometimes encounter with products,... but quite simply, they care about their product enough to make sure it is the best they can build, before it goes out the door. Few of us in this Maggie users group can complain about their product... and although they constantly take barbs from people who can 'modify their designs'.. remove fuses etc.. and make them sound better than even Jim Winey can design,.. Very few of those people post follow-ups about how they turned their panel into a toaster element and had to send it in for repair.... It happens all the time.
Dana cancelled his purchase from me, but a quick look in this very group will show that many others got their long awaited speakers,.and are quite happy with them. Dana will have his refund plus interest. John King (the friend Dana refers to) emailed me yesterday asking what was up... His 10.1's are sitting here and if he decided he still wants them,.. he too will receive them.
The business of trashing people may make you feel good on some level... but I have not felt the need to engage in it.
The Google posts are two. One from a guy who ripped ME off than vanished (try emailing him)... and the other from a fellow who was awaiting a package that UPS held onto because of a bad weigh bill. It is enroute now... and should be there today. Email him and ask him if you care to.
As for me. I will not EVER make any special deals, or move any product for anyone, ever again. So those who want to trash me,.. go ahead. And those friends who I have dealt with, and have forged great relationships with,.. take notice. This is the end and this is why.
