I think that's an interesting way of visualizing it. The main difference with a reflex design is that the sound emerges out of phase, rather than in phase! So it has a cardioid radiation pattern. Actually, it's a dipole at the bottom of its range and it shifts to cardioid further up. The slot apparently lowers Fs, too.
